Surviving a Computer Meltdown!
Posted by: | CommentsThere are many different topics that could be discussed on survival issues. One issue that thousands of people experience every day are various computer problems… often the ‘death’ of their harddrive, a virus infection, and other issues.
Today we will look briefly at email. Most of you have probably heard of "Gmail": Googles free email service.
I design and develop websites for my customers. There are a variety of options available for setting up business or company email service.
For several years now we have helped our customers to set up free "Google Apps" accounts with Google. There are many benefits to a Google Apps acount (similar to a Gmail account except you are able to use your own domain name: matthew@mydomain.com instead of matthew@gmail.com).
- You can save permanent copies of your emails on the server (if you delete an email by accident from your the email program on your computer, you can retrieve a copy from the Google Apps Server).
- You can use your normal email program with Google Apps or Gmail (such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc.)
- Very Stable: Google has several email servers available, so if one has a ‘problem’ you can still receive your email.
- Excellent spam filter.
- Free!
Because I know your email’s are vital to the success of your business (or personal email), I also highly recommend that you frequently backup your Google Apps (or Gmail) account.
To backup all of your accounts I recommend a product called "Gmail Keeper." Gmail Keeper allows you to schedule automatic backups of your Gmail or Google Apps account. While backing up your account(s) can be done manually, it is easy to forget to make backups. Gmail Keeper will help to ensure that you are always able to save and retrieve your emails regardless of any issues that might occur on Googles servers.
Gmail Keeper will also allow you to consolidate your Gmail and Google Apps and Gmail accounts (as well as other features). The software is excellent and so is the price… and comfort it provides!
Between using Google Apps (if you have your own domain name) or Gmail if you do not, you emails will be save and secure.
Not to Obey the Government Blindly
Posted by: | CommentsWe have said that under normal conditions it is the duty of every loyal citizen to obey his government and to serve in the armed forces of his country if called. We must make it clear, however, that such service is not to be rendered blindly or mechanically. God alone is Lord of the conscience. Our first loyalty is to Him, and we cannot transfer that loyalty to any group of officials, no matter how sincere their intentions.
Modern Pacifism Allied with Radicalism
Posted by: | CommentsAnother prominent feature of the modern pacifist movement to which we strenuously object is its leadership, particularly in the political and interdenominational spheres. While there are many sincere Christians connected with it, an unduly large proportion of its leaders have come from the ranks of church liberals, socialists, secular humanists, atheists, and Communists—the type of people with whom it is extremely dangerous to mingle. Those various groups find it possible to work together on a humanistic basis. While the Christian pacifist wants disarmament for one reason, the Communist wants it for an entirely different reason; and yet the effect of their influence is the same—a defenseless America.
What the New Testament Teaches Concerning War
Posted by: | CommentsThe New Testament gives no direct teaching on the subject of war, although it does make it plain that the civil government—whether kingdom, empire, or republic, it does not say—is divinely established so that as citizens we are to recognize its authority and to perform our duties toward it. That there should be a difference of emphasis and objective between the Old and the New Testament is quite natural, since there was a difference of dispensations, and since the former was written to and about a nation, while the latter was written to individuals and to a nonpolitical body known as the church. The ceremonial laws of the Old Testament had been fulfilled and had passed away, but the moral laws remained in full force. The two Testaments fit together in perfect harmony.
What the Old Testament Teaches Concerning War
Posted by: | CommentsIn all matters of controversy among Christians the Scriptures are accepted as the highest court of appeal. Historically they have been the common authority of Christendom. We believe that they “are given by inspiration of God, to be the rule of faith and practice” (The Westminster Confession of Faith I, 2); that they contain one harmonious, consistent, and sufficiently complete system of doctrine; and that it is our duty to trace out this consistency by a careful investigation of the meaning of particular passages. No person, acting merely on his own observations and judgments, can know what are the basic principles of the plan that God is following.
Biblical Verses For Self-Defense
Posted by: | CommentsBelow are a few verses that touch upon the subject of self-defense or defending another.
There are more verses, but these give an overview of the topic.
Genesis 9:5-6 (ESV)
5 And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
Luke 22:36-38 – The Swords

Did Jesus advocate the use of a sword for self-defense purposes (Luke 22:36-38)?
Matthew 5:38-42 – “Turn the Other Cheek”

The Path of Non-Resistance
Christian pacifists believe it is always wrong to injure other humans, no matter what the circumstances. And the same principles supporting pacifism carry over to nonresistance–the belief that any form of self-defense is wrong. This view is usually on the exemplary life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
The Biblical Case for Self-Defense
Posted by: | CommentsI. The Biblical Case for Self-Defense.
It is noteworthy that the Bible records many accounts of fighting and warfare. The providence of God in war is exemplified by His name YHWH Sabaoth ("The LORD of hosts"–Exodus 12:41). God is portrayed as the omnipotent Warrior-Leader of the Israelites. God, the LORD of hosts, raised up warriors among the Israelites called the shophetim (savior-deliverers). Samson, Deborah, Gideon, and others were anointed by the Spirit of God to conduct war. The New Testament commends Old Testament warriors for their military acts of faith (Hebrews 11:30-40). Moreover, it is significant that although given the opportunity to do so, none of the New Testament saints–nor even Jesus–are ever seen informing a military convert that he needed to resign from his line of work (Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 3:14).
Fight, Flight, or Faith: How to Survive the Great Tribulation by Charles Cooper
Posted by: | CommentsHow should Christians respond to the Antichrist and Violence?
A Review and interaction with Charles Cooper’s book.
Introduction:
The Church in the United States has a wide variety of opinions on the end times. The majority of conservative Christian churches teach that believers (The Church or Body of Christ) will be taken out of the earth and to safety (Pre-Tribulation rapture) before the outpouring of God’s wrath occurs during what is often called the (7 year) tribulation. Those who believe they will be raptured before this terrible time see no need to prepare for a tribulation period. There is a growing movement in the Church though that teaches believers will not be raptured before the Antichrist begins to brutalize and kill Christians.
Welcome To Our Survival Section
Posted by: | CommentsThank you for visiting the survival section of our website.
We hope you will find interesting and helpful information here.
I believe it is only fair to let you know up front what our thoughts and focus will be for this section of our site.
There are many different internet websites on that discuss survival issues (some of our favorites are listed under "Survival Blogs" in the left column of our site).
With so many different Survival websites in existence why add another one? Almost all Survival websites approach the topic from a non-religious viewpoint: they discuss survival skills, what to expect, how to prepare, etc. Very few have any significant focus on this issue from a distinctly Christian viewpoint. While we will include some posts on survival skills, preps, weapons, etc., we want to focus on how these issues pertain to Christians in particular. For example:
Some Christians disagree about whether it is permissible (biblical) for Christians to use a weapon to defend themselves against an attacker. Some fine tune this argument by saying Christians should not use violent means to defend themselves, but that biblically it is allowed for Christians to use such means to defend the helpless or 3rd parties.
Another example might be: Should Christians prepare for a tribulation period or disaster? Some believe Christians should "depend on God" to meet our needs and so there is no reason to prepare. Many of the issues the more ‘mainstream’ Survival websites take for granted may cause uncertainty with many Christians.
Our goal (main focus) will be to explore the theological and biblical underpinnings of what is biblical, and what should (or should not) be allowed from a Christian/Biblical worldview.
Over the next week I will be posting my book review/response to a book titled "Fight, Flight, or Faith?" by Charles Cooper. I think this multi-part interaction with Cooper’s book will give you a good idea of the direction this site will take.
We look forward to interacting and responding with you on this and other issues in the future.
